Weekend Update

By that, we mean Memorial Day weekend, when we got to visit three art venues in 24 hours.*

Saturday night, we middle-aged folk at Bean Up The Nose Art (meaning artist and husband) ventured into the big city of San Francisco, and visited the Chillin' Productions' 13th annual extravaganza.  They transformed The Mezzanine on Jessie St. into quite the happening art scene.

200 artists.  80 fashion designers.  

Live painting and live silk-screening.

Lots and lots of fabulous, trippy art everywhere.  Including two great photographic pieces by friend and artist Kayla Garelick, of Daydreaming Arts . . . who we've had the pleasure of highlighting before on this blog:)   The photos taken on Saturday night did crappy justice to her work, so they are not posted here.  Instead, click here to see some of her great stuff.

Also snagged this collage-art t-shirt from cool vendor in attendance Henry Miyoshi, of korruptlabel.com in Oakland.  Thanks, Henry!  

Sunday morning, attended the annual Caledonia Spring Street Fair in Sausalito.  

And got to see works of cool vendors like Jackie Huang, of WoolBuddy . . . which makes these great felt creatures & kits.

And met Lisa and Heather from JasperHeartsWren's modern playclothes.  Just check out these onesies!  A CORN DOG???  LOVE IT!!!!

And then on to the booth of friend and artist Virginia Simpson Magruder, who's been highlighted before on this blog :)   Terrific goodies from her Kentucky Girl Designs.

Including her signature oriel pendants.

But one fair in a day is not enough!  So, Sunday afternoon was for the 22nd annual Food and Flower Festival in Larkspur.

Where we found these papier mache piggy banks, created by cary@spiggys.com.  (We think you should get one.  They're AWESOME.)

And the fair was on the same street in Larkspur  . . . Magnolia . . . where you can find this lovely Frenchy-French home accessories and gift shop, L'ambiente.

Which just so happens to carry Bean Up The Nose Art's greeting cards :) 

Merci, indeed, to a great weekend-past of  being inspired by other artists and their art.  There is something incredibly heartening about seeing folks GET THEIR STUFF OUT INTO THE WORLD!!!! It takes amazing amounts of work, logistics, and most of all, BRAVERY, to take the step from the place where one's art is a hobby, to where one's art is Something Else.  Whether that involves a business focus or not, the act of transitioning one's art from its interior space to out there in the scary exterior of the rest of the world IS HUGE.  Big props to everyone who does that.  We see your work.  And we love you for it.
